In January 2024, we held with our association an exhibition at Kelet Café, showcasing photos of buildings captured by Benjamin Makovecz in the late 70s and early 80s, alongside their current views. My favorite was a shot taken inside Orlay utca 2/b, a building constructed in 1909-1910 and designed by István Medgyaszay.

Despite many attempts, I couldn’t enter for months. When I finally succeeded but the exhibition was over. Interestingly, Benjamin Makovecz’s photo didn’t show any stained glass, though before the war, each floor had one designed by Sándor Nagy. I read that only one piece survived, and in 2003, stained glass artists Gábor Gonzales and Judit Fűri recreated the rest. Interestingly, Judit Fűri has reconstructed many old stain glass windows in Budapest such as the one in the Sonnenberg-ház on Munkácsy utca or in the Szedő-ház on Hajós utca.
