A Decaying Architectural Gem in the 14th District of Budapest

I used to live in Zugló, the 14th district of Budapest, for a few years, and this villa has always fascinated me. It is one of the oldest houses in the district and is located on Erzsébet királyné útja 27/a. According to a local journal published in 2020, the villa was built in 1850 for a miller and designed by Károly Hild. Nowadays, only a small part of the villa and its facade remain, along with the cellar, while the rest has been demolished.

I have launched Buildings Tell Tales in 2019, and since then visited and photographed over 1000 old buildings in Budapest. My goal is not only to take photos but to uncover the interesting stories hidden behind the old walls. By linking the stories of ordinary people such as workers, students, merchants, and domestic workers to specific places, I want to make the past tangible. Old buildings should be preserved not only for their aesthetic value but also for the memories they hold and the stories they tell.
